Meet Sarah Hengesbach, CPA, senior accountant for Macy’s Inc. in Cincinnati. Learn why she became a CPA, how she remains active with The Ohio Society of CPAs and what she likes to do in her down time.
What made you want to become a CPA?
When I began working in Indianapolis at a local CPA firm, I became inspired by my co-workers’ drive and dedication to the profession. That led me to want to follow that same path, which meant spending the next year of my life working and studying for the exam. It was definitely worth it!
How did you end up at Macy’s?
After three years in public accounting, I decided I wanted a change. Cincinnati was my next destination and Macy's is a great place to work – not only professionally, but also through its community involvement.
What do you see yourself doing 10 years from now?
In my dream world, my fiancé and I would have owned our own restaurant/bar for a few years at this point.
How do you remain active with The Ohio Society of CPAs?
I am a part of the Cincinnati Young CPA planning committee, and I also attend some of the great CPE events that OSCPA offers!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Run, read and spend time with friends and family.
Do you have any hidden talents or interesting facts about yourself?
I've lived in seven states - including six houses and five apartments.
What is your all-time favorite movie?
I always struggle with this type of question! If I had to pick just ONE, I'd say “Good Will Hunting.”
What would be the first thing that you would do if you won the lottery?
Buy a great bottle of wine and pay off loans. (I know that's two responses, but one is much more fun than the other!)
